PFM bridge: PFM bridge is short for Porcelain fused to metal bridge, it consists of a metal core inside and a layer of porcelain outside blended together. PFM bridges look just like normal teeth. The strength, durability and appearance of porcelain fused to metal bridge make it a preferred choice for dental restoration procedures.
Overview
A PFM bridge is a metal substructure with porcelain fused to it. It remains the most predictable option where the restoration must carry high occlusal load, where the abutment preparation leaves little space for a full-ceramic design, or where the patient's budget rules out zirconia.
Fabrication
The framework is cast in Co-Cr or precious alloy with a minimum thickness for rigidity, then porcelain is built and fired in layers. We use Vita VMK 95 porcelain and hold the metal margin to your design, including lingual metal margins where you want them.
Appearance
The visible limitation of PFM is the opacity of the metal, which reads grey at the cervical margin under bright light. Where the margin is visible we will tell you and can adjust the design before casting rather than after the frame is finished.
